Lee Parkhill of RCYC was selected as recipient of Rolex Sailor of the Year of the season – Canada’s prestigious annual sailing award. The man from Oakville was distinguished for his prominent achievements at Pan American Games 2015 as well as the Olympic Test Event this year.
Parkhill assured the bronze in the highly competitory laser fleet at the TO2015, marking the 2nd Laser medal ever for Canada at any Major Games. In the next month, in August, Lee placed fifth overall and won the medal at Rio Olympic Test tournament.
Lee grew up on the sea, sailing with his family members on their very first yacht – a Mirage 24. He raced each Wednesday and Thursday evenings with his father at Oakville Yacht Squadron. He started sailing lessons at the Oakville Yacht Squadron at the age of eight, sailing in an Optimist yacht. His summers were spent running through the CYA Learn to Sail levels.
In the year 2003, at the age of thirteen, Lee sailed in a competitive manner, racing Laser Radials as a member of OYS team. In the year 2006, Parkhill joined the high performance team of Royal Canadian Yacht Club followed by qualification for National team in the year 2009.
Gulf Coast Yacht and Boat Show is being arranged at the Jones Park in Gulfport, this weekend. Well, the daily schedule for the Gulf Coast Yacht and Boat Show goes like this – Today: 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday: 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday: 10 am to 5 pm.
The boat and yacht show is considered the biggest boat show in Gulf South Region as well as 1 of the top in the country. Tickets, priced at $10, are now available online. While it is $12 at the gate, and children under twelve years of age can enter the place free.
More than fifty brokers and dealers, 25 boat builders, makers and more than seventy five individual vendors as well as suppliers would be exhibited. Fishing tackle, generators, electronics, water toys, docks and lifts, towing equipment would be among the things on display by the vendors.
The officials of the tournament told that they are not really bothered by the forecast of heavy rain expected across the Coast, looking for a strong crowd. The Wynward Yacht Club of Australia was awarded for its brilliant achievements at the Tasmanian Yachting Awards, 2014 in Hobart. This club had been declared joint winners along with the Sandy Bay Yacht Club.
This award came just after a month after the Coastal club had been declared the Australian Yacht Club of the Year by Yachting Australia and also a week after it had been declared as one of the winners in the Medibank Active Tasmania Awards. Neal Rodwell, who is a commodore at the Wynward Yacht Club is elated at the club’s achievement and says that they definitely did not work to win awards but their aim was to involve people and solve certain concerns. It was confirmed by the Australian shipyard Silver Yachts that they will be present at the Singapore Yacht Show (SYS) 2015.
The Singapore Yacht Show is one of the most important yachting events held in Asia. This is the first time that Silver Yachts will be exhibiting themselves at the annual show where their latest super yachts will be on display. The latest of the super yachts Silver Fast will be put on display for the first time.
The Silver Fast’s construction is about to be completed and the whole team is reported to be working very hard to make sure that she makes her appearance in April. The motor yacht has been designed by Espen Øino and it is very sleek. It has hull form of aerodynamics and the structure is the largest vessel the company has made so far. Other than being largest, it is also the longest vessel made by the company. The yacht can accommodate a total of 16 people and can reach up to 29 knots.
JonaKan, the director of Sales at Silver Yachts discussed their project and said that the new vessel is super sleek and very eco-friendly. The modern construction has given her the qualities to enter the ocean and will be able to push the boundaries that had been set previously by yachting. The Asian buyers are expected to be very impressed by the efficiency, simplicity and speed of the yacht. They believe that the Singapore Yacht show is the best platform in the region to show off to the industry and reach out to the probable buyers.
The show is to be held from the 23rd to the 26th of April in 2015 and Guido Krass, the owner of Silver Yacht seems very confident that the new vessel will impress the crowd a lot.
